Wasn't environmental impact one of the main points of the GPT-3-critiquing "On the Dangers of Stochastic Parrots: Can Language Models Be Too Big?" Sort of puts us in a catch-22 for using it to model climate change.
Excellent point that I didn't even touch on! Aside from the cost, the huge environmental cost on resources (similar to the crypto numbers that we are seeing). And then we get into the fun territory that a truly sophisticated simulation of the Earth would require it to be the size of the universe itself, which posits that perhaps we *are* living in that simulation...🙃
